Pink Eye

Conjunctivitis refers to either inflammation or infection of the conjunctiva, the thin, protective tissue covering the outermost layer of the eyeball and the inner surface of the eyelids. Conjunctivitis can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, or may be due to an allergic reaction. Typical signs may include: redness, swelling, tearing or watering, possible discharge, and overall irritation and discomfort. If there is indeed an underlying infection, pink eye can be highly contagious.

While most cases of pink eye may resolve on their own in just a few weeks, there is potential for serious sight threatening complications to develop.
